Condemning inhuman acts Corcom appeals for unity in Manipur

Imphal: The Group Coordination Committee (CorCom), a group of six banned underground organizations operating in Manipur, has appealed to the people to defend the unity of Manipur.

It also strongly condemned the inhumane parade of two innocent tribal women and demanded punishment of the culprits.
So far, six people, including a minor allegedly involved in the crime, are in judicial custody.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Committee, CorCom called on the ongoing warring parties-Meiteis to stop targeting innocent people in the valley, and similarly, it asked the Kukis to stop harassing innocent people in the highlands, especially in Kangpokpi and other communities in Moreh.
It appealed to all warring groups to respect international human rights and stop the destruction of innocent lives and property.
For more than two-and-a-half months, the people have been dragged helplessly into the vortex of a (proxy) war, carefully designed by the Indian administration with extreme military might to suppress the genuine struggle for Manipur’s independence, Corcom alleged.
According to Corcom, the rulers are pursuing a policy of ‘divide and conquer’ among the ethnic people of the region, which is ruining the lives of the local people.
It further alleged that India and its proxies conspired to create a ‘hate game’, trapping the people of the region, especially in the ongoing communal violence-hit Manipur, in a death trap.

Corcom said that innocents are fighting against all internal and external elements that challenge the integrity and sovereignty of Manipur.
Corcom’s statement comes at a time when tensions have flared over the molestation of two women from one of the warring tribes, who were stripped naked by a mob.
The CorCom is a conglomeration of six Valley-based militant outfits—the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), its Progressive faction (PREPAK-Pro), Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF, the political wing of the People’s Liberation Army- PLA), and United National Liberation Front (UNLF). CorCom is demanding independence for Manipur.
The princely state of Manipur was merged into the Indian Union in 1949.
