Commando training of 2284 Assam police cops by Indian army

Guwahati: A total of 2284 Assam Police commandos completed their training with the Indian Army on Friday (01 September) and are now back with their respective battalions.

Among them are 273 women commandos and 268 sub-inspectors (SIs), including 15 women SIs of five special battalions.
“They were trained in counter-insurgency operations by senior Indian Army personnel at seven locations in Assam and Meghalaya,” said defense spokesman Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawat.

He said 40 weeks of intense training had turned the recruits into a formidable force.
The training was conducted under the auspices of the Gajraj Corps of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, which planned the training routine, carefully crafted to mold the commandos into a highly skilled and disciplined unit.
These highly trained commandos will form the ‘bedrock’ of the Assam Police to face any internal security challenge.
The functions organized at the end of the training at various locations were a tribute to the months of rigorous training, tireless efforts and the support of the Indian Army who provided state-of-the-art infrastructure and instructors at the various training nodes.
The closing ceremonies included a cultural performance to celebrate the success and hard work of all involved.

Commandos, instructors and distinguished guests were seen engaging in conversation, sharing their stories and experiences in what was a “heart-warming experience” for the attendees.
“This successful completion of the training of the Assam Police Commando Battalion also highlights the excellent coordination between the state police and the Indian Army,” Rawat said.

The Indian Army and the Assam Police have been conducting joint operations against insurgents in the state since the 1990s.

These joint operations have contributed significantly to the normalization of the situation in the state.
