Agartala: Tripura CM Manik Saha on Saturday asserted that meeting the demand for Greater Tipraland through Tipra Motha would be “impossible” as “its proposed boundary not only extends to Assam and Mizoram but also to neighboring Bangladesh.”
He also alleged that the regional party was “trying to fish in troubled waters” in the upcoming assembly elections and was involved in creating “division between tribal and non-tribal people”.
“What is the boundary of Greater Tipraland? I have heard that its proposed border not only passes through Assam and Mizoram but also neighboring Bangladesh. Will they accept the Greater Tipraland proposal?”
“It is not possible,” he said during the BJP’s ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rally in Belonia, South Tripura.
Accusing Tipra Motha of “trying to create division among people”, Saha said the northeastern state had a “tradition of good relations between tribals and non-tribals”.
The Tipra Mothas, led by Pradyot Kishore Mankeya Debbarma, who rule the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council on their behalf, are demanding Greater Tippraland.
Elections to the 60-member Tripura Assembly will be held on February 16 and counting of votes will take place on March 2.
Saha claimed that the Center is focusing on the development of all North Eastern states.
In a veiled attack on the CPI(M), the CM said “what the BJP-IPFT government has done in five years, they could not do in the remaining 35 years”.
Saha said the CPI(M) and Congress had formed an alliance “because of the vibrant democracy in the state”.
“It is very strange that Congress leaders are coming out of CPI(M) offices and communist workers are visiting Congress offices. How Congress has joined hands with CPI(M) which has won South Tripura district. had killed 69 Congress leaders and workers in undivided Belonia,” he said.
The chief minister, who attended two more rallies, appealed to Congress leaders and workers to join the BJP.
Earlier, Saha visited Tripureswari temple in Gomati district of Udaipur and offered prayers there.
