Imphal: Expressing concern and condemning the recent incident in Khamenlok, Manipur where at least nine lives were lost, scores injured and several houses burnt down, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday announced the closure of 41 hill areas and 38 I announced to start the combing operation. All the people involved in the 39-valley areas should be arrested.
As part of these operations, six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) have been recovered, CM Biren said while talking to the media at his secretariat in Imphal. He assured the public that strict action will be taken against the terrorists responsible for the brutal killings in Khamenlok area.
He stressed the urgent need of the public to avoid blocking security convoys on the roads.
Biren said such operations have led to significant disruptions and delays in the timely arrival of backup units, which has had a severe impact on clashes with militants targeting civilians in peripheral areas.
Addressing the ongoing unrest, the Chief Minister clarified that it is not a conflict between communities but between the state government and illegal immigrants as well as anti-social elements promoting violence and hatred.
In this regard, he asked the public to focus on destabilizing these elements and not indulge in rumour-mongering, which further fueled violence and eroded trust within the Manipuri community.
Responding to reports of some persons involved in illegal sale and purchase of waste land, the Chief Minister emphasized that the government would strictly enforce the 1960 KML and LR Act.
He assured the public that no one can lay claim to the abandoned lands and houses of the displaced people, as they are being fully protected by the security forces.
Regarding the comments of Mizoram-based CSOs, Biren urged the Mizoram government to rein them in, saying their involvement does not give them the right to decide the fate of Manipur.
The Chief Minister confirmed that the stand of the state government is unwavering and the integrity of Manipur will never be compromised.
On the issue of demands for a separate administration by 10 MLAs, including cabinet ministers, he said the government was approaching the matter with a conciliatory mindset, trying for mutual understanding, as it was a political matter.
However, he emphatically declared that the integrity of Manipur would not be compromised under any circumstances.
In other updates, the chief minister revealed plans to extend the curfew period from 5 am to 6 pm, which would allow normal activities to gradually resume and reopen schools from June 21 if possible. will go
The state level peace committee headed by the governor has also started consultation with its members to speed up the restoration of peace, he assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken by ministers and MLAs as well. who are engaged in interaction with various stakeholders. .
