CM Singh: Operation against militants, SoO insurgents to start soon

Imphal: Manipur police and central forces will soon launch a joint operation against armed groups and members of insurgent organizations under the suspension of operations (SoO), which have been found violating the agreement.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh gave this information in Kokta on Friday June 23.

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh visited the site of an improvised explosive device blast at Kwakta in Bishnupur district on Friday.
The Manipur Chief Minister said that under the SoO, armed action would be initiated against members of insurgent outfits, who are found with weapons outside designated camps.
Apart from Kwakta, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also visited the mooring and interacted with the displaced people.
It may be noted that the state of Manipur has been on the boil since May 3 following clashes between two communities and subsequent large-scale violence.

More than 100 people have lost their lives and thousands have been displaced as a result of the clashes and subsequent violence in the state.
Incidents of firing have been reported from Manipur’s Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts.

This was informed by the Indian Army’s Spare Corps (III Corps) on Friday.

“Firing was carried out by armed miscreants in Urangpat/Yaingangpokpi (YKPI) areas in Imphal East and Kangpokpi (in Manipur),” the Indian Army said.

The shooting happened shortly before noon on Friday June 23.
“A group of armed miscreants infiltrated the area from YKPI towards the hill,” the army said.

The armed miscreants opened fire with automatic weapons towards the villages of Urangpat and Gwaltabi.
“Columns of security forces deployed in these empty villages are responding in a calibrated manner to avoid any casualties,” the army added.

“A large group of women, YKPI and a section of mob in Seijang area are blocking the movement of additional columns in the area,” the army added.
