Shillong: Conrad Sangma Meghalaya Chief Minister, who was sworn in as chief minister for a second term on Tuesday, said his MDA 2.0 coalition government would take steps to ensure illegal mining and transportation in the state.
The statement by the chief minister came even as his government under the previous MDA alliance was accused of illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state.
Reacting to a query, Sangma said, “We have maintained that we will take steps to ensure that no such activities take place.”
Sangma reiterated that the process of starting scientific mining is already underway and four groups have already received approval to start scientific mining in the state.
Sangma added that talks will be held soon to resolve the border dispute at the remaining six points with Assam.
It should be noted that the MDA 2.0 coalition government will have two Deputy Chief Ministers namely Sniawbhalang Dhar and Prestone Tynsong. The Chief Minister defended the move saying that it is a precedent and sends a strong representation from different regions.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said his new government would continue to work aggressively on the projects that have been laid.
Speaking to mediapersons after taking oath as Chief Minister, Sangma said that the government will focus on infrastructure and even social sector by giving importance to youth and employment.
Emphasizing the need to improve the overall delivery mechanism, he said the government would work on many aspects of infrastructure such as electricity, IT, health and education.
