Drug Traffickers In Tripura
Agartala: Chief Minister Manik Saha has said that Tripura is being used as a corridor for Drug Traffickers from Myanmar to Bangladesh.
Briefing reporters after a high-level meeting on drug trafficking and national security in Guwahati on Saturday, CM Saha said steps would be taken to increase vigilance at the state’s borders.
He said that despite all possible efforts to stop drug smuggling, drugs are being sent from Myanmar to Bangladesh through Tripura’s border with Assam and Mizoram.
The high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah was attended by Chief Ministers, Chief Secretaries and DGPs of North Eastern states.
“This is the first time, the Union Home Minister held a meeting with North East Chief Ministers and DGPs on drug trafficking. He made it clear that the country will not allow its territory to be used for drug trafficking,” he said. CM Saha said.
Highlighting Tripura’s efforts to make the state drug-free from 2018, Saha said his government has seized the most drugs, including heroin, brown sugar, ganja and yaba pills.
He said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate 19 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
