KOHIMA: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed hope that talks on the Naga political issue will soon end on a positive note.
After casting his vote at Tuophema polling station in Kohima district, Rio on Monday said it was very encouraging that NSCN-IM and Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) had earlier issued a joint statement calling for Naga peace talks. Will try to speed up. with the center.
A few years ago, eight other Naga armed groups came together under the banner of the NNPG.
The Center has been in talks with the NSCN-IM and the Working Committee of the NNPGs since 1997 and 2017 respectively.
Framework Agreement with NSCN-IM was signed in August 2015 and Agreed Position with NNPGs in November 2017.
The NSCN-IM signed a ceasefire agreement with the Center in 1997 and has held more than 80 rounds of talks inside and outside the country but with no substantial results as the government has denied them a separate constitution and flag.
Reo, who is also a senior leader of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), is seeking re-election from North Angami-II Assembly seat.
“NDPP and BJP will return to power comfortably and will have more than the absolute number of seats,” he told reporters.
