KOHIMA: CM of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio on Friday urged the citizens of the state to be alert and vigilant against COVID-19.

Regarding the 2023 state general elections, which are scheduled to be held early next year, Rio said that “even if there is no solution to the Naga political issue, the elections will go ahead as scheduled”.

The Center has been in talks with the NSCN-IM and the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) since 1997 and 2017 respectively. The NNPGs comprise at least seven Naga groups.

It signed a framework agreement with the NSCN-IM in August 2015 and an agreed position with the NNPGs in November 2017.
Asked if the state government would approach the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) not to boycott the state polls, Ryu said the cabinet would meet on January 3 to consider the matter and take further steps. There will be a meeting.

ENPO, an apex body of seven tribes belonging to six districts of eastern Nagaland, Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng, Noklak and Shamator, has announced a boycott of the elections until their separate state ‘Frontier’ ‘Nagaland’ demand is not fulfilled.
Eastern Nagaland has 20 seats in the 60-member state assembly.

Meanwhile, during the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Fire and Emergency Service Department at Sukhriezie and the water pump house for Sukhriezie Market under the Police Headquarters here.

He also laid the foundation stone of the Ts tuo Stadium in Rutsagei, which will be an international level multi-purpose stadium.
Rio also inaugurated the Ts tuo Irrigation Project and Rephiny Badze, a resting place with multiple spaces for various activities in Vrie at T Khel Model Village.

The last three projects are on the outskirts of the capital. All the projects are under Ts tuonuomia Khel, a sector of Kohima village, the second largest village in Asia.
Appreciating the T-Khel Council for completing five projects for the benefit of all not only in the village but in the state capital, the Chief Minister emphasized that everyone has to work together to bring more growth and progress.

Stating that Nagaland has been adjudged as the best performing state in controlling the law and order situation in the country, he hoped that the peaceful environment would help the Naga youth to excel in all spheres of life and society. It will provide opportunities to take it forward.
