Aizawl: Chief Minister Lalduhoma, on his first visit to the central headquarters after assuming office, interacted with the External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar.
The meeting, which took place in the chambers of Dr Jaishankar’s office in Delhi, mainly focused on addressing the challenges faced by the influx of Myanmar refugees in Mizoram as well as other important issues of mutual concern.
The two leaders, who belong to the Indian Civil Service batch of 1977, share a long-standing friendship. The discussion centered on the vexed issue of Myanmar refugees entering Mizoram, giving the Chief Minister an opportunity to articulate Mizo’s concerns.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma emphasized the historical context of the boundary lines between India and Myanmar, which were originally established by the British colonial administration.
He highlighted the negative impact of this delimitation, saying that it has forced the borders into Mizoram, resulting in age-old separation of the Mizo fraternal tribes.
The Chief Minister made it clear that Mizoram does not accept the scheme and discussed possible ways to resolve it.
Following the meeting, Dr. S. Jaishankar took to Twitter to share insights from their conversation. He wrote, “So glad to meet Chief Minister of Mizoram Shri @Lal_Duhoma ji today. We began Government service at the same time and trained together.
Discussed how MEA and the State Government could collaborate more closely.” The tweet underscored the commitment of both leaders to fostering collaboration between the Ministry of External Affairs and the Mizoram State Government.
