CM Khandu says visa-blocked Wushu players will get 20 lakh each

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has extended support to three wushu athletes from the state who were unable to participate in the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, China due to visa denial by the host country.
The Chief Minister confirmed that these athletes will be officially recognized as part of the Indian Wushu team and will be given incentives as per the state’s sports policy.
The trio, which includes Onilu Tega, Nyeman Wangsu, and Mepung Lamgu, along with Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Mama Natung, coach Maibam Premchandra Singh, and officials of the Arunachal Olympic Association and Arunachal Wushu Association on Wednesday met CM Khandu in his office.
Acknowledging their historic achievement as the first-ever qualifiers from Arunachal Pradesh for the Asian Games, Khandu awarded the athletes a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh each, as per the state’s sports policy governing Asian Games participants. Encouragement assured. Additionally, coach Maibam Premchandra Singh will get 10% of the incentives allotted to the players.
During his interaction, the Chief Minister encouraged the young Wushu athletes to step up their efforts to train hard and prepare for the 2026 Asian Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan. He praised their unwavering dedication and reminded them that they are already considered heroes and potential medal winners.
Khando assured the athletes of government job opportunities and full financial support for training, including nutritional requirements, for the Tokyo Asian Games.

Notably, Wushu is yet to be included as an Olympic event.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the efforts of the Arunachal Olympic Association and the Arunachal Wushu Association to resolve the visa issue at the highest level with the Indian Olympic Association and promised unwavering support from the state government.
Expressing their gratitude, the three athletes expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Chief Minister and the people of Arunachal Pradesh for their overwhelming support despite the disappointment of not participating in the Asian Games.
