Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has urged BJP workers not to allow “money culture” during elections as such practice “affects democratic ethos”.
Apart from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections in the northeastern state are due next year.
“As elections draw near, let’s not allow the culture of money to corrupt our democratic ethos,” Khandu said while addressing the BJP’s state executive meeting at Aalo in West Siang district on Saturday.
Notably, several incidents of cash seizures were reported in the state during the 2019 elections.
The Chief Minister urged the party workers to involve women to make people aware of the benefits of government schemes.
“From housewives to working for the development of Arunachal, women have played an important role in our society,” Khandu wrote on his official Twitter handle.
Asserting that the BJP is the “only party” that can take the state to the heights of development, Khandu said, “To expand the party’s vision and work, we need to extend our government’s welfare work.” The community should help spread the good word.”
Highlighting the developmental activities undertaken by the state government, the chief minister said “historic achievements like Tali and Vijanagar roads, village programmes, migration to border areas” were some of the achievements of the government.
He said that the Assam-Arunachal border issue would be resolved soon.
BJP national general secretary and party in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh Dilip Saikia in his address emphasized on maintaining discipline among party workers.
In the meeting, the state ministers presented the achievements of their respective departments.
Party sources said economic and political resolutions were passed during the event, which were presented by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and MLA Nyato Dokam.
Along with Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao also attended the meeting.
