Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in the state on the evening of May 24 and is likely to attend a meeting the next day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told mediapersons on Thursday.
Chief Minister Sarma said that the Union Home Minister has pre-scheduled his visit to the state on his request as he will attend the Niti Aayog meeting on May 27.
Responding to media queries on the Karnataka assembly election results and the opposition’s momentum for the 2024 general elections, Chief Minister Sarma said, “In a football match, if we score 10 goals, the opponent scores one. Can score but in the end, we win. 10-1. I am surprised, we won the Gujarat election and then nobody said anything, when we lost in Karnataka, there was an uproar.
This is the history of Karnataka, if we get 36% votes in assembly polls then in parliamentary polls we will get 52% votes, so people should look at the history and celebrate, they should not celebrate in between, let the game play out. . finish off The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading all over India and next time we win, don’t blame the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
Asked about the closure of 300 more madrasas, Sarma said, “We have already closed 600 madrasas. There was a meeting between the BJP and the people running the madrasas, and it was agreed upon. That 300 more madrasas will be closed. So I am not going to do it, this is the result of the discussion between the Assam Police and the national organizations, but it has been mutually agreed that 300 more madrasas will be closed.
Answering a question on ‘The Kerala Story’, the Chief Minister said, “People in Assam are watching, so I don’t want to comment on anything positive or negative on the Supreme Court verdict. The verdict is there. Everyone can read.”
Asked about the possibility of a crackdown on polygamy, the chief minister said, “There will be no crackdown because polygamy is legal as far as Muslim believers are concerned, so unless we amend the law.” “No, polygamy is legal and we can’t go.” On crackdown, but if any Hindu is found practicing polygamy, we can go for crackdown.
“The idea behind banning polygamy is to save the honor of a Muslim mother and daughter and not treat them as second-class citizens. If you read the Quran, you will know that the Prophet (PBUH) said: that monogamy is the rule in Islam, polygamy is the exception. I am even ready to debate this subject with an Islamic scholar.”
Responding to the issue of child marriage, Sarma said, “We may see another crackdown on child marriage offenders by August or September.”
