Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh flagged off a 10-day organic farming educational tour, ‘OP Sadbhavna 2022-23’ from Sajik Tampak to Sikkim at Mantripukhri in Imphal on Monday.
OP Sadbhavna, comprising a team of 20 farmers from Kana valley of Chandel district, was flagged off from Sajik Tampak to Gangtok on February 4 under the auspices of HQ IGAR(S).
Speaking on the occasion, CM Biren Singh appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles to promote organic farming in the border areas. “Organic farming is an important part of the ‘war on drugs’ as it provides an alternative means of farming. The participants will help promote organic farming in the state and also educate the public about its benefits, said the Chief Minister.
CM Biren also thanked the Sikkim government for providing an opportunity to the farmers of Manipur to learn various aspects of organic farming. The Chief Minister also emphasized on creating public awareness about the benefits of organic approach to agriculture.
The visit was organized to sensitize and sensitize the young farmers of the state about organic farming.
During his first visit to Sikkim, the farmers were briefed on various chemical-free organic farming techniques. During the tour programme, a series of field visits and presentations of various organic farms were also organized by the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture, Sikkim.
Apart from this, the farmers also got an opportunity to interact with Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad Chaurasia in Gangtok.
Farmers, through OP Sadbhavana, were able to get practical information on organic methods of land testing, pest control and harvesting techniques. They also learned about emerging markets for organic products.
