Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and termed the Gandhi family as “Amul Babies”.
The Chief Minister of Assam told the media that there was no crowd at Priyanka Gandhi’s rally in Jorhat, Assam.
He claimed there were “barely 2,000-3,000” people at the rally.
Who will go to meet Priyanka Gandhi? People used to go to Kaziranga instead of seeing rhinos and tigers. Their time will be more productive”, he said.
The CM added, “There is no point in looking at the Gandhi family. They are Amul’s children. They will be more suitable in Amul campaign.
It should be noted that Priyanka Gandhi had addressed a large gathering during the road show in Jorhat.
She stressed the importance of this promise, highlighting the “unfulfilled expectations” of tea garden workers under the current BJP government.
“When I visited the tea estates in Assam before the assembly elections two or three years ago, I had pledged to raise the wages when the Congress came to power. Unfortunately, the wages remained at around Rs 250 because you Chose the BJP,” she lamented.
“But I assure you once again that if we form a government at the Centre, our manifesto guarantees an increase in the wages of tea plantation workers.”
In a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Priyanka Gandhi slammed her handling of the unemployment crisis, alleging that he has failed to adequately address the issue in a recent interview.
“Unemployment is at an all-time high, yet the prime minister mentioned it only twice in his recent interview, which mainly revolved around his ‘Man Ki Baat’,” she asserted.
Urging voters to exercise their franchise based on issues like price hike rather than religious or caste considerations, Priyanka Gandhi called for a united effort to hold the government accountable.
Priyanka Gandhi, along with several senior Congress leaders from Assam, including Gaurav Gogoi and state Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah, started the road show from Titabor Chariali, the assembly seat of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
