CM Assam Sarma declares no dry days at the time of Durga Puja

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that there will be no dry day or ban on sale of liquor during the ongoing Durga Puja celebrations in the state.

The chief minister, while addressing questions about possible dry days in Assam during the puja, said banning the sale of liquor would ultimately mean an increase in the black market.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “If we announce any ban on the sale of liquor, the black marketeers will immediately start hoarding it and sell it during the puja. As a result, the media will target the government.” Will report blaming.

He further said that however the government may consider dry days as per the need and situation.
He said that some tribes of Assam also have their own rituals of drinking alcohol during such festivals. “Even some rituals in the Kamakhya temple require alcohol”, he added.

The Assam chief minister added that the final decision on whether to observe a day during the puja as a dry day can be taken after assessing the outlook of the accident.
However, he did not say exactly which day it could be.
