GUWAHATI: A day after sharing a post praising the Assam government for its efforts to curb poaching of rhinos in Kaziranga National Park, Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has been honored by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. An invitation to visit has been received.
In an Instagram post, DiCaprio wrote that the Assam government’s efforts were successful last year as no rhinos were poached in Kaziranga National Park.
On Twitter, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Wildlife conservation is an integral part of our cultural identity. We are dedicated to preserving and protecting our rich cultural heritage. Thank you for your kind words, @LeoDiCaprio, and I cordially invite you to visit Kaziranga and Assam.
The CM also posted a screenshot of DiCaprio’s post on his Twitter account.
However, last month, the Chief Minister of Assam created a controversy by asking, “Who is Shah Rukh Khan?” Answering questions on the violent demonstration by Bajrang Dal workers who stormed a theater in Guwahati, I know nothing about him or his film Pathan.
However, a day later, Sarma said that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan spoke to her on the phone at 2 am and expressed concern over the protests against her film ‘Pathan’. Sarma posted on Twitter the next day that she had assured the actor that her government would conduct an inquiry into the protest against the film and ensure that “no such untoward incidents” happen again. .
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Leonardo DiCaprio wrote that the Assam government had decided to end the poaching of one-horned rhinos in Kaziranga National Park in 2021 after nearly 2000 and 2021 for their horns. 190 pachyderms were killed.
“In 2022, they accomplished their goal and for the first time since 1977, no rhinos were poached in the area,” the Hollywood star wrote.
