Guwahati: Students and youth organizations staged protests across Assam on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Ranoj Pegu over the leak of the General Science question paper of the Class 10 state board exams.
All Assam Students Union (AASU), National Students Union of India (NSUI), Sutra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged demonstrations and burnt effigies of Pegu at many places in the state.
The question paper of the examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) was leaked on Sunday night, and the examination scheduled for Monday was cancelled.
AASU, NSUI and SMSS protested outside the SEBA headquarters in Guwahati amid tight security, demanding a CBI probe into the scam.
Don’t take the future of students lightly, we won’t tolerate it. Hand over the investigation to the CBI and punish the culprits immediately,” said an agitated AASU leader.
Demanding the resignation of Pegu-EdSEBA chairman RC Jain, SMSS alleged that the government was not serious about the future of students.
“Pegu is the worst education minister in the history of Assam and SEBA has been pushed to its deathbed by Jain. We will have a CBI probe to trace the conspiracy to topple SEBA,” said SMSS General Secretary Pranjal Kalita. demand, which controls all local medium schools in Assam.
NSUI leaders alleged that the government wanted to destroy all schools under SEBA.
“Jains are doing everything possible to destroy Assamese medium and other local medium schools,” claimed one of the protesting NSUI leaders.
AASU protested at Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Nalbari, Jamugurihat and other places across the state.
Effigies of Pegu and Jain were burnt in Dibrugarh, while their effigies were hanged in Golaghat.
“This fascist government has unleashed the police on us to stop us from holding democratic protests. This government must go,” an AASU leader said in Jamugurihat as student body members clashed with police. who tried to snatch Pego and Jane’s skins.
AJYCP protested in Dibrugarh, ABSU took out a march in Gohpur.
