Christmas in Nagaland

Dimapur: Christmas, the happiest day for Christian-dominated Nagaland, was celebrated with religious fervor across the state.

People gathered in churches across Nagaland on Sunday morning to attend services and participate in Christmas feasts, making the day even more special.

The day passed without any incident being reported across Nagaland.

However, non-payment of salaries to some Nagaland government employees has affected their celebrations.

On Saturday night, people attended midnight mass and kept a vigil waiting for the birth of Christ.

Dimapur town in Nagaland, the commercial capital of the state, was particularly bursting with firecrackers overnight.

Nagaland Chief Minister Nephew Reo took to Twitter to thank God for the occasion.

“Thank you God for loving us and sending your only begotten Son. He is the light of the world, the light that fills us with love, faith and hope. I wish you all a #MerryChristmas,” from Nagaland. The Chief Minister said.

In his congratulatory message to the people of the state, the Nagaland Chief Minister urged them to be true peacemakers in their respective constituencies.

“As Nagas, let us try to be more forgiving, and reach out to each other in every possible way to heal the wounds and divisions in our society,” he said.

Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y. Peyton and various political parties including Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, Naga People’s Front, BJP and Congress also wished the people of the state on Christmas.

“This #Christmas, let’s remember the angel’s words to the shepherds: “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.” (Luke 2:10) Our Lord May the love and light of #JesusChrist fill everyone with joy, peace and hope! #MerryChristmas! Patton tweeted.
