China’s actions fundamentally at odds with goal of peace, stability: US
“The goal of this campaign is clear — to intimidate and coerce Taiwan and undermine its resilience,” Kurt Campbell, Deputy Assistant to the President and Coordinator for the Indo-Pacific said
Washington: The recent Chinese actions around House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan are fundamentally at odds with the goal of peace and stability, the White House said on Friday, adding that Beijing is going to continue its pressure campaign against Taiwan.
“China’s actions are fundamentally at odds with the goal of peace and stability. They are part of an intensified pressure campaign against Taiwan, which has not ended, and we expect it to continue to unfold in the coming weeks and months. The goal of this campaign is clear — to intimidate and coerce Taiwan and undermine its resilience,” Kurt Campbell, Deputy Assistant to the President and Coordinator for the Indo Pacific, told reporters during a conference call.
The US, he said, will keep on finding a way quiet and undaunted ways to maintain harmony and solidness notwithstanding Beijing’s continuous endeavors to sabotage it, and to help Taiwan, in accordance with its longstanding strategy.
“These means, across a scope of regions, will unfurl throughout the next few long stretches of time on the grounds that the test is long haul. We won’t be reflexive or automatic, we will be patient and successful,” Campbell said.
America, he said, will keep on flying, sail and work where worldwide regulation permits, reliable with its longstanding obligation to opportunity of route, and that incorporates directing standard air and oceanic travels through the Taiwan Waterway in the following couple of weeks.
“We will keep on satisfying our responsibilities under the Taiwan Relations Act. That incorporates supporting Taiwan’s self-preservation and keeping up with our own ability to oppose any retreat to drive or different types of intimidation that would endanger Taiwan’s security, economy or society,” Campbell said.
