China plane crash: No sign of survivors, President Xi Jinping orders investigation
Following the crash of a passenger plane with 133 passengers in southwest China on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered an investigation into the crash.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said he was shocked by the crash of a passenger plane with 133 people on board.
“We are shocked to learn of the China Eastern MU5735 crash,” Xi was quoted as saying by China’s state broadcaster CCTV.
Xi Jinping called for “all efforts” and “as soon as possible” to find the cause of the accident.
The death toll is not yet known but the crash site is on fire. The bomber struck shortly after noon in a rural area near Wuzhou City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
CCTV reported that the accident “caused a fire in the hill”.
Rescue operations have been launched but no survivors or casualties have been confirmed.
