Chief secretary: hill districts medical student worst affected of riots

Imphal: Medical students from the hilly districts of Manipur have been the worst hit due to communal violence in the state. Manipur Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi said this while briefing Governor Anusuiya Uikey on the current situation in the state on Tuesday (October 10).
Manipur Chief Secretary reviewed the various initiatives and programs initiated by the state government for the relief and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the measures taken to restore peace and normalcy in the conflict-hit state. The Governor was also informed about this.
Asked about the current educational scenario of Manipur Governor, the Chief Secretary said that all schools are now reopening except a few schools, which are being used as relief camps and students are attending. It has also increased by 10%.
He added that an alternative method of learning has been planned to be implemented soon for the schools that cannot be reopened in the hilly districts of Manipur at present.
He continued that the higher education of medical students from the hill districts of Manipur, who were earlier studying at JNIMS, RIMS and Shija, has been badly affected.

He said that discussions are ongoing with the officials of the Union Ministry of Health to resume normal classes for the students.
Highlighting the launch of helicopter services from Churachandpur in Manipur to Aizawl in Mizoram and from Kangpokpi to Dimapur in Nagaland, the Chief Secretary informed about the progress of prefabricated houses being constructed in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts.
The governor directed the completion of prefabricated houses as soon as possible to alleviate the problems faced by the IDPs in the relief camps.
Regarding the availability of essential commodities in the affected areas, the CS said that efforts were made by the state machinery and security forces to ensure free flow of transportation of essential commodities in all districts mainly in the violence-hit districts. are going

Issues related to disposal of dead bodies, compensation to the affected families were also discussed.
