Aizawl: Union Minister of State for India’s Minorities Affairs John Barla while speaking in Mizoram’s Aizawl on Sunday said that the Union government is committed to the development of minority communities in the country.
John Barla arrived in Aizawl on Saturday on a three-day visit to Mizoram.
The Union Minister visited Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district and held a meeting with state departments and Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) officials on Sunday.
During the meeting, Birla said that the central government had launched various schemes for the minority communities, which were being implemented across the country.
The Union Minister also asked the officials of Mizoram to create public awareness about the central schemes and help the needy.
Barla was apprised of the current status and progress of Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) projects being implemented in Mizoram’s Langthalai district.
He also discussed with the officials to resolve some existing issues and facilitate further progress through the schemes.
Birla visited the ongoing construction of a residential sports school at Longtai College in Mizoram under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) scheme.
He also visited the ongoing construction of Kaladan Multi-modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP), a two-way cross-border road project to connect Mizoram to Kolkata Seaport via Myanmar.
