New Delhi: The CBI on Monday arrested a Russian national for his alleged involvement in JEE (Mains) exam manipulation last year.
Officials said the CBI had issued a ‘lookout circular’ against Mikhail Shargin, suspected to be the master hacker, for allegedly rigging the prestigious exam.
He said that the CBI was alerted by the Bureau of Immigration when Sharjan arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport from Almaty in Kazakhstan at 1.20 am.
He was immediately detained by the CBI and questioned in connection with the JEE manipulation case.
A CBI spokesperson said, “During the course of investigation, it came to light that some foreign nationals were involved in compromising several online examinations, including JEE (Mains), in connivance with other accused in the instant case.” Doing so,” said a CBI spokesperson.
Officials said investigations revealed that Shargin had allegedly tampered with iLeon software, the platform on which the JEE (Main)-2021 exam was conducted, and computer systems of suspected candidates during the exam. had also helped other accused in hacking.
