Acting on a tip-off, police tried to stop a vehicle in the Sapatgram area on Saturday night, he said.

“The car was signaled to stop, but it sped away. Our team started chasing her,” said a police officer.

He said the occupants of the car opened fire on a police vehicle, which was retaliated in self-defense.

“There were three people in the car. One of them died on the way to the hospital, while the other is now undergoing treatment.”

The officer added that one of the accused managed to escape.
