Canada linked in Manipur unrest, MLA Imo writes to Amit Shah
Imphal: BJP MLA from the conflict-hit northeastern state of Manipur – Rajkumar Imo Singh – has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In his letter to Amit Shah, BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh allegedly blamed “foreign terrorist links with Manipur-based outfits abroad in Canada and other countries” for the ongoing unrest in the state. Action has been requested.
Manipur’s BJP MLA urged Amit Shah to fully expose “certain individuals and their organization’s possible links with Khalistan terrorist forces, who are trying to destabilize Manipur”. Investigation should be done.
He urged the Union Home Minister to “initiate strict legal action against all those who are involved in spreading terrorism… and separatist agenda with the help of other terrorist groups using international platforms.”
Additionally, Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar imo Singh also demanded that the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram be “completely fenced, similar to the fencing process in Manipur” to prevent illegal immigration.
“I reiterated my stand that Mizoram’s Indo-Myanmar border should be fenced, similar to the fencing process in Manipur, as the Mizoram state government has decided to arrest biometrics of people entering the country from there. Not ready to ensure, thus they leave. Place for such people to come to other parts of the country including Manipur,” said Imo Singh.
It may be noted that the Zormathanga-led MNF government in Mizoram had refused to comply with the BJP-led central government’s directive to collect biometric details of Myanmar refugees taking refuge in the state.
Mizoram minister Lalruatkima said: “Collecting biometric details of Myanmar refugees would be discriminatory as they are our close brothers and sisters.”
“Hence, the Cabinet has decided not to go ahead with the process of collecting biometric details of Myanmar refugees,” the Mizoram minister said.
Notably, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had directed the state governments of Mizoram and Manipur to complete the process of collecting biometric details of refugees from Myanmar by September 30.
According to official records, there are 35,126 Myanmar refugees in Mizoram, of which 15,589 are taking shelter in relief camps, while 19,458 are either living in rented accommodation or with relatives.
Mizoram shares a 500 km long international border with Myanmar, much of which is unguarded.
