SILCHAR: Cachar Raped and Murdered, A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and attempting to murder his 17-year-old girlfriend at Moynagarh under Borkhola police station in south Assam’s Cachar on Tuesday night.
The arrested person, identified as Sanjay Teli, was produced before the court on Wednesday and remanded in judicial custody.
According to reports, the girl’s family lodged an FIR against Sanjay at the Borkhola police station on Tuesday.
According to the complaint, Sanjay asked the girl to come and meet him at a certain place in the village on Monday night.
“Upon her arrival, he raped her, slit her throat with a sharp weapon, and then carried her in a sack and dumped her in the tea garden area of Moynagarh, about 20 km from Silchar city.
The girl, who was seriously injured, managed to reach a residential area after regaining consciousness after which local residents referred her to Borkhola Primary Health Centre.
Based on family complaint, a case (178/22) under sections 367 (causing grievous hurt to a person, enslavement, etc.), 376 (rape), 326 (abduction for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons) or kidnapping) i.e. Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 201 (disappearing evidence of crime, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code.
A team of police officers led by Borkhola police station in-charge M Raut conducted an operation in Moynagarh and nabbed Sanjay from his house on Tuesday.
During police interrogation, Sanjay confessed his crime. He was produced in court on Wednesday and sent to judicial custody.
A section of Moynagarh locals said that Sanjay, who was in a relationship with the girl, when he came to know that his girlfriend had gone to watch a movie with another man in the village on Sunday and suspected that she might has committed this crime.
A source said that the girl has been shifted from Borkhola Primary Health Center to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
According to the latest reports, her condition is critical.
