Imphal: Mobile internet services will soon be restored in four districts of the conflict-hit northeastern state of Manipur.
This claim was made by Manipur Cabinet Minister Khashim Vashum.
Vashum said that mobile internet services will resume in four districts of Manipur – Chandel, Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Senapati.
He made this claim while addressing a function in Manipur’s Ukhrul district.
It is worth mentioning here that the four districts of Manipur namely Chandel, Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Senapati have substantial Naga population.
It was earlier reported that the Manipur government is considering restoring mobile internet services in areas of the state that have not been affected by the violence.
According to reports, the Manipur government is exploring the restoration of mobile internet services “on a trial basis” in parts of the state where violence has not taken place.
Manipur’s home department said in an order that the state government would “go to open mobile towers on a trial basis in those district headquarters which are not affected by the ongoing law and order crisis”.
The order added that if a “trial run” of restoring internet services in peaceful areas is “found feasible”, the initiative will be extended to other areas of Manipur where “law and order situation has improved”. Is”.
It should be noted that organizations representing the Naga community in Manipur are pressuring the government to restore mobile internet services in the violence-hit areas.
