Agartala: The three-day budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly is set to commence on March 01, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath told media persons after the business advisory committee meeting.
The session will run until March 5, with the aim of completing proceedings before the Lok Sabha elections, as agreed upon unanimously by leaders from both the opposition and treasury benches during a meeting convened by the Speaker.
The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has prioritized concluding the budget session prior to the official announcement of polls. “All the Ministers and MLAs have specific duties to perform during the polls. The budget session should not get impacted for that. This is why MLAs of both the treasury and opposition benches had agreed to wrap up the budget session before the poll schedule in announced,” Nah added.
While the specifics of the budget remain closely guarded until its unveiling by the Finance Department, Nath hinted at the possibility of significant announcements. Additionally, a new bill is scheduled for introduction during the session, alongside the presentation of three Private Members resolutions. “The opposition bench got two private member resolution while the ruling party got one,” he added.
Supplementary grants are expected to be tabled on the first day and passed on the last.
However, Senior CPI(M) MLA Jitendra Chowdhury criticized the BJP government, expressing concerns over the limited duration of the session. Chowdhury lamented the shrinking scope for discussions on issues of public interest in the Assembly. “The BJP keeps delivering sermons on democratic practices and make no stone unturned to stifle the voice of opposition,” he said.
