Itanagar: A National Commission for Minorities (NCM) team on Thursday visited Menchuka in Arunachal Pradesh, which has become the center of controversy over the identity of the religious site claimed by both the Sikh and Buddhist communities.
TOI reported that the NCM team visited the site in an attempt to resolve the dispute and gain a deeper understanding of the situation.
The team, led by NCM vice-chairman Kersi Kaikhushroo Deboo, visited the site to interact with local community leaders and Buddhist monks.
The team tried to gather information and assess the historical context of the disputed site.
During their visit on Thursday, the NCM delegation visited the disputed site in Neh Pema Shelpu area of Menchuka.
Last April, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) alleged that a historic gurdwara in Arunachal Pradesh had been converted into a Buddhist place of worship.
The SGPC claimed that the Gurudwara was built in the 1980s at the site visited by Guru Nanak Dev, the first master of the Sikhs, during one of his adhis (journeys).
According to the SGPC, the Gurdwara was converted into a Buddhist place of worship by the Memba community.
