Book dwells on literary pursuits of Assam’s Hindi-speakers
Former Director General of Assam Police GM Srivastava has said that the Hindi-speaking people of Assam need to strengthen their language and document their cooperation in building their adopted home.
He lauded the efforts of the poet-writer Soumitram, whose book ‘Contribution of Hindi speakers in the development of Hindi in Assam’ (contribution of Hindi speakers in the development of Hindi in Assam) at a program here on Monday by a former senior police officer.
“Their collaboration needed to be documented and I’m glad this book did,” he added.
Sumitram said the book was the result of a search for the identity of Hindi speakers in different parts of the country.
Even if someone from Bihar has lived in Assam for generations, it is called ‘Bihari’. And when he goes to Bihar, he is called ‘Assamese’, “he said.
