Guwahati: Assam Police has arrested another person for alleged links with Bangladesh terror Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
The arrested person has been identified as Abdul Suahan, a resident of Jogighupa in Bongaigaon district of Assam, police said on Thursday.
Goalpara SPVV Rakesh Reddy said, “He has very close links with the two imams who were arrested earlier.
Earlier, Goalpara district police arrested two imams affiliated to AQIS and ABT from Lower Assam district.
They have been identified as Imam Abdus Subhan of Tunkonia Shantipur Masjid under Mornoi Police Station and Imam Jalaluddin Shaikh of Talpara Natun Masjid under Matia Police Station of Goalpara District.
Reddy said that their links with Barpita and Morigaon modules of AQIS/ABT have been actively sought.
“Later we searched their houses and found incriminating material like jihadi materials, books, pamphlets, posters, broken phones, SIM cards. Further inquiries are on. We have got some evidence which was later supported by local sources. And more will come out after questioning. Some of them were already recruited by these men into Al-Qaeda network. We are trying to nab them all and alerting other districts as well,” he said. They said.
Reddy added that the names of a few areas have come up during the investigation and these areas are Char and some areas near Talpara.
Due to the complexity of the case, the police will investigate further.
Their arrests followed the arrests of 23 people, including a few from Bangladesh, across Assam in the past four months for alleged links to Bangladesh terror , AQIS and ABT and for setting up ‘jihadi’ sleeper cells.
