Bollywood’s Sonu Sood attends Bodoland Int’l Knowledge festival
KOKRAJAR: Bollywood actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood said being able to make a difference in people’s lives is more satisfying and more successful than being a part of a Rs 1,000 crore film or awards.
Sood was addressing the closing ceremony of the first Bodoland International Knowledge Festival in Kokrajhar on Thursday.
Sood, who is known for helping millions of migrant workers reach their homes during Covid, said the period has changed his outlook on life. When the first lockdown was announced in 2020, it booked chartered flights and buses for stranded migrant workers.
“I have acted in around 100 films in different languages - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Chinese and English. The films were hits. I got success. But when Covid came and I connected with the common people whom I I didn’t know, I never met them and probably never will again. I connected with them and their prayers blessed me. Knowingly or unknowingly I could bring happiness in their lives. Then I got the ultimate life. A sense of achievement,” Sonu Sood said while addressing a jubilant crowd in Kokrajhar on Thursday.
“I was chasing films in the dark for 18 to 20 years. Believe me, you can be a part of a Rs 500 crore or Rs 1,000 crore film, but that’s nothing compared to the joy and success you get when you become a person. Can be life changing.
Further recalling the Covid days, the actor said, his relationship with Bodoland and Assam began in 2020.
“My relationship with Bodoland and Assam is not new. When Covid started, I got a tweet that many people from the Northeast were stranded. And it was raining heavily in Mumbai. They were standing under a flyover. And someone tweeted that they are from Assam and North East. It was getting difficult. When I booked the chartered flights, the first one was for Odisha and the second one was for Assam. Many people messaged me saying that they wanted me. would come to visit later. And they came back to me,” said Sood, an electronics engineering graduate.
“Many of them are working with me now and some of them are working with my friends. So this relationship is not new.”
He also urged the youth of Bodoland to help each other and work together for the development of the region.
Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli, who was also present during the closing ceremony, thanked BTR chief Pramod Boro for organizing the academic fair.
Teli said that they are working to expand the Bongaigaon refinery and this will create employment opportunities in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Speaking on the occasion, BTR chief Pramod Boro said that many positive things have come out in the last four days of the knowledge fair. Over 25 sessions were held in the last four days of Bodoland International Knowledge Festival organized by Bodoland University with active support of BTR Govt.
