GUWAHATI: Myanmar Ambassador to India, Iran and Bhutan Moe Kyaw Aung, who attended the first Bodoland International Knowledge Festival in Kokrajhar, Assam, asked the business community of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Assam to explore opportunities in Myanmar.
Explaining the similarities between Myanmar, particularly the western part of Myanmar, and northeastern India, Moe Kyaw Aung indicated that the region has a lot of room for development.
“The entire region is blessed with natural beauty, rich biodiversity and rare wildlife, distinct historical and cultural sites and ethnic heritage. With breathtaking scenery, abundant greenery and a land of exotic flora and fauna, it is the epitome of metropolitan life. A haven for travelers looking for a quiet environment away from the hustle and bustle. In addition, there is plenty of scope for mountaineering, trekking, adventure sports and golf,” said Moe Kyaw Aung.
The Bodoland International Knowledge Festival, organized by the Bodoland University with the active support of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Government, is attended by scholars, researchers, journalists, experts, diplomats and students from across India and various countries around the world.
“If it is well developed and promoted, it can emerge as one of the biggest employment generators. I believe there is a strong potential for multi-sectoral cooperation between the two neighbours.”
Highlighting works like the Kaladan Multi-modal Transit Transport Project and the India-Myanmar-Thailand highway projects, he said these would change the face of the region.
“When these two projects are completed, they will not only provide strategic connectivity to the Northeast but will also be of great benefit to the region. This is important for India and Southeast Asian countries. Welcome to explore more in the fields of education, healthcare, digital training, skills and research in Myanmar.
“I would like to take this opportunity to invite Bodoland businessmen to explore and invest in Myanmar for further development and border development.”
Earlier, the fair was inaugurated on Monday with dignitaries including Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Younus, Padma Shri awardee philanthropist and diamond exporter Savji Bhai Dholakia, SECMOL founder Sonam Wangchuck, Bollywood actor and philanthropist Vivek Oberoi.
