Assam: The All Bodo Students’ Union has raised its voice against government signboards that are written in English or Assamese and not in Bodo.
Placing black ink on the signboards, the ABSU said that Bodo language should be given priority in BTR, followed by Assamese, and then English.
In particular, ABSU has demanded that all small and medium enterprises should write signboards in Bodo.
In addition, he demanded that in all urban areas like Kokraghar, Bijni, Kajalgaon and Udaliguri Town, all hoardings written in English should be changed to Bodo, Assamese and English within a week.
It is worth mentioning here that the language array started after the Bodoland Urban Development Department installed signboards written in English language.
“We have noticed that some signboards have been written and printed in English language by the civic department,” Bodo Students’ Union president Dipen Boro said while talking to the media.
“This is our own concern and our sentiments as Bodo language has been recognized as a language in the Indian Constitution in 2003… and as per the Bodo Agreement it has become an associate official language of the state government.”
The student body president also alleged that the director of the civic body had violated the official notification of the state government.
