Boat capsized in kokarjhar
Kokrajhar (Assam): Two women went missing and three others injured when a country boat capsized in the Sonkosh river in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.
The incident took place near No. 1 Gorumara “Char”, a piece of land from a river bed, when five women went to collect wood floating in the water.
This place is located near the Assam-West Bengal border.
“Most of the rivers north of the Brahmaputra in Lower Assam originate in Bhutan and if there is rain upstream they carry logs. The women went to collect the logs in a small country boat, which was basically But they are used for cooking,” he added.
While collecting logs, the boat capsized and two women went missing with the boat, the official said.
Three other women sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a local hospital in Alipurduar.
He further said that the district administration, police and SDRF personnel have launched a search operation to locate the boat and rescue the missing women.
