Imphal: Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded along the Imphal-Dimapur stretch as an economic blockade called by All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM).
In Manipur, hundreds of trucks loaded with essential commodities are stranded on the Imphal-Dimapur road.
Normal life in the hilly districts of Manipur has been badly affected due to the economic blockade.
Additionally, sporadic fire incidents were also reported from the hilly districts of Manipur on Saturday and Sunday.
The ATMS on Friday called for an “economic blockade”, demanding the introduction of the Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in the Assembly.
Meanwhile, amid rising tensions, the Manipur government has suspended mobile internet services across the state for five days.
“…. All mobile service providers are directed to ensure compliance with this order,” an order from the Manipur department said.
On the other hand, Section 144 CrPC has been imposed for two months in Bishnopur and Chorachandpur districts.
Meanwhile, the ATMS has threatened to intensify its agitation demanding the immediate release of its five leaders from judicial custody.
