Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to flag off BJP’s ‘Rath Yatra’ in Tripura on January 5, a party leader said.
He said that the eight-day yatra will start from Dharmanagar in North Tripura district.
Assembly elections are due in the state early next year.
BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee said on Friday that Shah will also participate in a rally in Subroom in South Tripura district on January 5.
Rath Yatra has been named ‘Jana Vishwas Yatra’ by the ruling party.
BJP president JP Nadda will participate in the program on the concluding day of the yatra on January 12.
During the ‘Jana Vishwas Yatra’, the party hopes to connect with around one million people as it will cover all the 60 assembly constituencies of the state. There will be 200 rallies and over 100 processions to highlight the welfare activities of the central and state governments,” said Bhattacharjee.
At least 10 Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states and central leaders are expected to join the yatra, he said.
Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Sushanta Chowdhury termed the yatra as one of the BJP’s biggest political events ahead of next year’s assembly elections, and said the saffron camp “has already become an event”. is set to make it a huge success”.
