BJP’s Manik Saha to take Oath as Tripura CM today
Agartala: The Manik Saha-led BJP-IPFT coalition government will take oath here on Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The opposition Left and Congress will not attend the swearing-in ceremony to protest post-poll violence in the northeastern state.
A senior BJP leader said the Manik Saha-led Council of Ministers in Tripura will take oath of office and secrecy during the day.
Saha will be sworn in as the chief minister of the northeastern state for the second time.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda have already reached Tripura to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP-led government.
“Manik Saha will take oath as the chief minister of the state for the second time at the Vivekananda ground. The prime minister will attend the programme,” said Subrata Chakraborty, chief spokesperson of the BJP’s Tripura unit.
PM Modi is scheduled to reach here from Guwahati at around 10.35 am.
“This is the first time that an anti-Left government has retained power in the northeastern state in the last three decades. We hope that the BJP 2.0 government will fulfill the aspirations of the people,” Chakraborty said.
In 1988, the Congress-TUJS defeated the Left and formed the government in the border state, but it was defeated by the Communists in 1993.
In the recent assembly elections in Tripura, the BJP won 32 seats in the 60-member house, while its ally IPFT managed to win one seat.
