BJP is in favor of Valentine's Day celebrations Mawrie clarifies

Shillong: A fake letter is reportedly doing the rounds on social media claiming that BJP Meghalaya is against celebrating Valentine’s Day and unmarried couples celebrating it. The BJP in Meghalaya on Tuesday condemned the fake letter and the “despicable politics” behind it.

Reacting to the letter, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said that the BJP has a very pragmatic view of all festivals and welcomes the celebrations as they add to the happiness of the society.
Mawrie termed the letter as a cheap political stunt that “a desperate opposition has tried to pull the BJP just ahead of the upcoming assembly elections”.

“The letter shows that the BJP’s political opponents are fearful of the party’s growing popularity in Meghalaya, and in desperation are trying to color the elections communally.”
Mawrie said that the letter was a conspiracy to defame the BJP and create distrust against the party. However, these disgusting and malicious tactics will not fool the public.

The BJP has initiated an FIR against all those responsible for the circulation of the fake letter. A case of forgery will also be registered against the culprit.
“BJP wishes all the people of the state a very happy Valentine’s Day and wishes that the festival of love brings more smiles to all lives,” Mawrie said.
“BJP has shaken its foundation of corruption and they are naturally and predictably disappointed. This fake letter circulating on social media is a direct result of that. This stunt is also proof that BJP is the favorite of the people of Meghalaya and BJP is going to lead the next government in the state.
