BJP govt will never repeal CAA, Home minister Amit Shah clarified

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will never be repealed by BJP government.
Shah said the government is committed to ensuring Indian citizenship for persecuted minorities from neighboring countries, rejecting any compromise on this sovereign right.
Addressing the opposition’s claims, the home minister claimed that he was “aware of the bleak prospects of coming to power” and, consequently, the futility of trying to repeal the CAA.
He further countered claims of unconstitutionality, highlighting Article 14 and its provisions for oppressed minorities in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Amit Shah further reiterated the commitment of the BJP manifesto and emphasized the need for law to provide justice to oppressed minorities.
He also rejected the allegations of political opportunism while stressing the BJP’s long-standing agenda.
Shah defended the CAA against accusations of being anti-Muslim, framing it in the context of the history of partition and the plight of persecuted minorities.
Citing the dwindling minority populations in Pakistan and Afghanistan, he claimed that it was the government’s moral duty to protect those persecuted for their religious beliefs.
Shah also criticized opposition leaders including Mamata Banerjee and Asaduddin Owaisi for politicizing the issue and claimed that they were misleading the people.
He challenged Banerjee’s claims of the CAA leading to the loss of citizenship for minorities, and urged her to focus on curbing infiltration instead of playing divisive politics.
