BJP Backed tribals delisting in the state opposed by CPI (M)

Agartala: The Ganmukti Parishad (GMP), the tribal wing of the CPI(M) in Tripura, has strongly opposed the proposed rally of the RSS-backed outfit Janajati Suraksha Manch here on December 25 in which the Scheduled Tribes (SSTs) t) Demands to withdraw benefits received by people who converted to Christianity.
GMP state president Naresh Jamatia said in a press conference here on Monday that the agenda of the rally to withdraw the ST status to the Christianized tribals is nothing but a communal appeal.
Claiming that reservation was not given on the basis of religion, the former minister said it would be suicidal if the benefit was withdrawn.

“The GMP fought the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) which had banned Durga puja and Laxmi puja celebrations in the state’s tribal belt during the 90’s.

The organisation will continue to uphold the values of secularism”, he said.

On Manipur, Jamatia said that the people of the neighbouring state have been suffering the brunt of communal polarisation as communal strife continued there for more than six months.
