Bir Lachit Barphukan world's tallest statue to be ready Jan 2024

Jorhat: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that the world’s tallest statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan is expected to be ready by January 2024.

It may be mentioned here that the statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan is being constructed at Hollongapar in Jorhat district and will also house a museum on Ahom history.
It should be noted that 50 bighas of land has been taken from the public for the construction of this wonderful project and so far 12% of the project has been completed.
Earlier in 2022, on the occasion of the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan, the Assam government decided to erect a 125-feet bronze statue of Lachit Barphukan at his memorial in Hollongapar, Jorhat.
The statue, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 120 crore, is said to pay a grand tribute to the great Assamese general whose bravery saved the state from the Mughals.
The Assam government has also released a documentary on Lachit Barphukan.

Himanta Biswa Sarma had in November 2022 appealed to the people of the state to light earthen lamps in their homes on the occasion of Lachit Diwas on November 24.
Addressing mediapersons at the Assam House here after leaving a review meeting regarding the preparations for the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of Lachit Barphukan, Chief Minister Sarma urged the people of the state to keep dust in their homes.
