AGARTALA: Tripura is looking at Bangladesh’s green signal to restart the border hotline. The Tripura government is waiting for a positive response from the end.
To restart border hotspots in Bangladesh, which had been closed since the first wave of the Covid pandemic.
Officials said it has been more than two years that the hothouses have been closed due to unavoidable circumstances during the pandemic.
However, the central government has already approved the reopening of the haats but a positive response from the Bangladesh authorities is still awaited.
Speaking on the matter, Tripura Industries and Commerce Department Director Swapna Debnath said, “The central government has already given all necessary approvals to open the border marts at the earliest. The district administration is responsible for managing and monitoring these marts. Guards.” What we have learned from the district-level Border Hot Management Committees is that they are still awaiting positive approval from their Bangladeshi counterparts to reopen border trading posts.
Debnath also told this reporter that apart from the existing two border hothouses. Steps are underway to open two more border hothouses at Dharmanagar and Kamalpur.
Present Kamala Sagar and Srinagar are located under Sepahijala and South Tripura districts respectively.
Speaking on the matter, District Magistrate Spahijala Vishwasree B said that the district administration is in talks with the Bangladeshi counterpart to speed up the process of resuming operations of the mart.
“The Border Management Committee is headed by the Additional District Magistrate of the district. So far, I know, the matter has been taken up with the Bangladesh authorities after the green flag from Bangladesh. A joint inspection will be conducted and Operations will resume only after that”, he added.
Sources also said that border hothouses have already been opened in Meghalaya and the matter will be taken care of in the state as well.
