Aizawl: The Mizoram government has banned the use of firecrackers during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The ban on firecrackers, sky lanterns and other flammable materials announced by the Mizoram government will remain in effect during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Notably, crackers and other flammable materials were also banned during Diwali celebrations.
“During the Christmas and New Year season, vigilance will be maintained to ensure ban on sale and use of firecrackers and other inflammable materials,” said Aizawl Superintendent of Police (SP) C Lalrovia.
Earlier too, Mizoram had banned the sale and use of firecrackers and other inflammable materials during festivals to curb air pollution.
Mizoram is expected to celebrate Christmas and New Year in a grand manner this year, after two years of low-key celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
