Itanagar: The Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has criticized the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Upper Siang to ban the holding of healing programs in public places.
The ACF held a press conference at the Press Club here on Tuesday, where its general secretary James Techi-Tara said the order had hurt the sentiments of the Christian community and requested the state government to withdraw it immediately.
According to Tara, the forum had submitted a representation to the state government on October 20 last year, appealing to it to revoke the order issued by the Upper Siang DC.
This order prohibits any person, group, faith or religion from promoting prayer healing, healing crusades, healing by local priests in public premises and magical cures for diseases and disorders.
Tara said that the ban on holding healing programs in public places is an insult to the Christian community.
“We strongly condemn this order. It seems that DC has misunderstood the difference between black magic and healing programs, which is very unfortunate.
The ACF leader also raised the issue of the construction of Tawang Church and requested to invite the Chief Minister for an update on the matter as the latter assured to intervene to resolve the matter.
The forum also expressed its feelings over the non-allocation of funds for Christian educational institutions during the concluding budget session 2023-24.
Tara urged the state government to live up to its slogan of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” with equal treatment, claiming that “RSS educational institutions have been earmarked, while the Christian community which I have the largest number of established institutions and are providing services. The society is being neglected by the state government.
