Amid fresh violence ban on internet extended till 5 November

Imphal: The Manipur government has extended the ban on internet/data services for another five days till June 10 with immediate effect in an attempt to further disrupt law and order in the violence-hit state.
In fresh orders issued by the Manipur government on Monday, it has been announced that the suspension of internet services in the state will be extended for another five days till 3 pm on June 10.
“Further suspension of mobile data services/internet/data services including broadband services and internet/data services through VASTs of BharatNet Phase-II,” the order issued by State Commissioner (Home) H Gyan Prakash said. Territorial jurisdiction is further suspended. State of Manipur, except those who have already been specifically exempted by the Government and may be exempted later.”
This order is issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order within the jurisdiction of the state of Manipur.
The order said that the Director General of Police, Manipur, through a letter dated June 5, has informed that there are still reports of incidents like burning of houses and premises.
It also said that it is feared that some anti-social elements may use social media extensively to disseminate images, hate speech and hate video messages, which may inflame public sentiments. which may have a serious impact on the law and order situation in Manipur.
The order also stated that it is appropriate to maintain law and order in the public interest by preventing the spread of false information and false rumors through various social media platforms on mobiles such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. Steps need to be taken Phone etc. and send bulk sms.
Hence, order further suspension/discontinuation of mobile data services, internet/data services including broadband. Internet/data services through Reliance Jio Fiber, Airtel Xtreme Black, BSNL FTTH etc. and VSATs of BharatNet Phase-II in the state. All service providers have been directed to ensure compliance with the order.
It further said that legal action will be taken against any person found guilty of violating the said orders.
