Bailey bridge collapsed due to rain in Noney district of Manipur.
Imphal: A Bailey bridge along the Irang River in Noney district of Manipur collapsed on Thursday afternoon after continuous rains.
According to locals, traffic between Imphal and Jiribam along National Highway 37 was disrupted when the Bailey Bridge near Taobam village under Haochong subdivision in Noni District collapsed at about 1:30 p.m. Collapsed due to erosion.
Locals said that timely intervention of CRPF personnel to stop all vehicles on both sides could prevent major accidents on the bridge.
In addition to passenger cars and private cars, more than 30 trucks, including 15 loaded trucks, were stranded on the national highway after the bridge collapsed.
Meanwhile, vehicles along the affected highway have been advised to cross the old Kutcher Road, Khoupum Valley and Bishnupur from Rengpang village.
Continuous rains have wreaked havoc in many parts of Manipur, making daily life extremely difficult.
