Attack on Jiribam relief camp, Six from Meitei community missing
Imphal: A violent attack by armed Kuki-Zo-Hmar armed groups on a relief camp at Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam on Monday has left two elderly Meitei villagers dead, while six others, mainly women and children, remain missing.
The deceased, identified as 66-year-old Laishram Biren and 75-year-old Maibam Kesho from Loukoipung Village, had been taking shelter at the camp along with other displaced villagers. Biren succumbed to bullet wounds, and Kesho was reportedly found burned.
Two other individuals, Pebam Rajkumar (64) and Oinam Thonglen (45), managed to escape the attack.
The missing persons, last seen at the Borobekra relief camp, include 66-year-old Yurambam Rani, 25-year-old Laishram Heitombi, her two young children (2-year-old L. Chingkheinganba and 10-month-old L. Lanngamba), 30-year-old Telem Thoibi, and 8-year-old T. Thajanganbi.
The missing persons, last seen at the Borobekra relief camp, include 66-year-old Yurambam Rani, 25-year-old Laishram Heitombi, her two young children (2-year-old L. Chingkheinganba and 10-month-old L. Lanngamba), 30-year-old Telem Thoibi, and 8-year-old T. Thajanganbi.
Alleged photos of these individuals in a forested area circulated on social media, causing widespread concern, though there has been no official confirmation of their condition or whereabouts.
The attack on Borobekra Police Station, which was under CRPF protection, resulted in a skirmish during which one CRPF jawan sustained minor injuries, and at least ten militants were neutralised by security forces, who recovered high-end weaponry, including rocket launchers.
In a separate incident, a CRPF sentry post in Jiribam’s Nayanpur was burned down. Additional security forces have been deployed in Jiribam to restore order and continue the search for the missing individuals.
