At Tezpur University pre-Bihu celebrations held with cultural show

Tezpur: The Tezpur University Students Council organized a cultural program at the university playground on April 8 to mark the pre-Bihu celebrations.

The event was attended by students, faculty members, and non-teaching professionals, who gathered to enjoy cultural performances and celebrate traditional Assamese festivals.
The event started in the community hall with traditional games like Koni Juj (egg fight), Tekeli bhonga (pot hitting) and a friendly inter-hostel tug-of-war competition. It started at 10:00 AM and continued till 1:30 PM. Later, the cultural program started at 3 pm. with a Mukoli Bihu performance, followed by the Vice Chancellor’s address and a welcome address by the TUSC President.
The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of Assam through a variety of traditional dances and musical performances which were enthusiastically received by the audience. Moncho Bihu performed by Nilachal Men’s Hostel, Kopili Women’s Hostel, and Subhansiri Women’s Hostel was a clear crowd favorite, followed by Jeng Bihu by Pobitora Madam Currie Women’s Hostel. Additionally, Rati Bihu presented by Kanchanjangha Men’s Hostel and New Women’s Hostel was one of the many entertaining performances that captured the essence of the festival.

Adding to the excitement of the evening was the much-anticipated Baarerohoniya dance, presented by Dhansiri Women’s Hostel and Charaideo Men’s Hostel, followed by another Moncho Bihu performance by Patkai Men’s Hostel and Bordoichila Women’s Hostel. Apart from these performances, a solo music performance by Mayur Jyoti Nath from Saraighat CV. Bari Baareboroniya Dance presented by Raman Men’s Hostel and Jerry Women’s Hostel was also well appreciated by the attendees.
The Culture Secretary then took the stage to thank all those who made the event possible, including performers, organizers, and sponsors, for their hard work, support and role in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Assam. Took With this, the pre-bihu celebration came to a grand end. The evening was a resounding success and a testament to the vibrant and diverse cultural traditions of this beautiful region.
